Coronavirus outbreak has made the life of every individual quite miserable. Everything has come down to a tragic halt with nothing much happening in sports as well. The governments in major countries announced lockdown in order to protect the citizen from the novel virus.

Earlier, when cricket was in its full swing, the cricketers had to face the hate of the fans for not performing well on the field. However, now the chances were quite slim of any player facing any wrath of the fans as there is no cricket going on across the globe.

But with social media’s use being at its peak these days, a few of the cricketers have been at the receiving end of the lash out from the fans even during the lockdown.

Here we bring you five cricketers who received hate on social media during lockdown:

1. Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh, the veteran Indian spinner remains quite active on social media. He always comes out with his opinion on several trending topics. However, sometimes it doesn’t go down well with his fans and the same happened when he supported Shahid Afridi Foundation. It is well known that COVID-19 has made the daily life of the poor people quite miserable.

So, to ease down their problems, Shahid Afridi foundation began helping needy and underprivileged by providing all the necessary things like food, mask, etc. After watching such a gesture from Afridi’s foundation, Bhajji came out and shared his views over the same and said that the former Pakistan all-rounder is doing a great job. And, it is everyone’s’ responsibility to contribute a bit in order to support his foundation.

The 39-year-old shared his views through his Twitter handle that didn’t go down well with the Indian fans. Afterwards, he had to face the heat of his fans and followers on the social media platform. However, the cricketer later cleared that he will always stand for humanity while his wife Geeta Basra requested everyone to not make it a religion based problem and blow out of proportions.

2. Gautam Gambhir

In 2011 on April 2, India won their second 50-over World Cup in the history of international cricket. Earlier this month, the country celebrated its ninth anniversary as well. However, a controversy took place on the same day when Gautam Gambhir came out with a comment that didn’t go down well with the fans.

On the historic date, a leading cricket portal shared a still of MS Dhoni hitting that match-winning six that he smacked in the final against Sri Lanka. Moreover, they gave it a title that read, “a six that sent millions of Indians into jubilation.”

After going through the post, Gambhir said that it was a team effort due to which Team India won that World Cup taking an indirect dig at MS Dhoni’. This tweet from Gambhir went viral on a social media platform and expectedly had to face the heat for his distasteful tweet on such a historic occasion.

3. Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh, the former World Cup winner has become quite an outspoken figure after bidding adieu to international cricket. Amid COVID-19 outbreak, like his former teammate Harbhajan Singh, the southpaw also came forward in support of Shahid Afridi through his Twitter handle and said that it is a tough time for everyone. He added that everyone should join hands and support the less fortunate people.

Moreover, he requested everyone to donate to Shahid Afridi foundation in the fight against Coronavirus. His post read,” These are testing times, it’s time to look out for each other especially the ones who are lesser fortunate. Lets do our bit, I am supporting @SAfridiOfficial & @SAFoundationN in this noble initiative of covid19. Pls donate on donatekarona.com #StayHome.”

Soon after that, the Indian fans lashed out at the southpaw for supporting the former Pakistani all-rounder, who is a big critic of India’s way handling of the Kashmir dispute.

4. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja, the talented Indian all-rounder is well known for his on-field performances with the bat and ball. Also, he hogged the spotlight on numerous occasions in the past for his sword swishing celebration after scoring a fifty or a ton with the willow in an international game.

While in lockdown, he recently shared a clip in which he can be spotted using his a real sword in the same style as he does it on the field with his bat after scoring half-century. He also gave it a caption that read,” SWORD” MAY LOOSE IT’S SHINE,BUT WOULD NEVER DISOBEY IT’S MASTER #rajputboy.”. However, some people felt that the all-rounder had hurt their sentiments by highlighting his caste in the caption.

Unknowingly, but yes he invited controversy by posting such the. After that, he was brought under the scanner of the fans. One of them even went onto ask him on Twitter that what will happen if Pakistan cricket team uses their bat-like sword of Ghazni or Babar on the cricket field.

5. MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni, the former Indian skipper doesn’t speak much in public domain but these days his name is enough to attract any type of controversy. After lockdown, many cricketers like Suresh Raina, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, and many others donated hefty amounts to PM-Cares relief fund in order to support the government in the fight against Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, everyone’s eyes were set on Dhoni that how much amount he will contribute as an individual. Suddenly, news began making rounds in the media that the 38-year-old donated Rs 1 Lakh to a charitable trust. Soon, all the focus was shifted towards MS Dhoni and he had to face the wrath of the fans for making such a small donation.

Later on, his wife Sakshi Dhoni came forward and asked all the media houses to stop spreading false news regarding his husband and former Indian skipper. She took to her official Twitter handle and wrote, “I request all media houses to stop carrying out false news at sensitive times like these! Shame on You! I wonder where responsible journalism has disappeared.”
