‘I don’t think you can get me out with your left arm’ – Parthiv Patel recalls sledging Mitchell Johnson
Parthiv Patel, the Indian wicketkeeper is a regular face in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. He played for different franchises in the past like Kochi Tuskers Kerala (discontinued), Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad. Currently, he is part of Royal Challengers Bangalore. In a recent interaction, he shared one of his memories when he sledged Mitchell Johnson during an IPL game back in 2016.
The 35-year-old is known for making some silly remarks from behind the stumps. In 2004, he had angered Aussie skipper Steve Waugh in the final Test match by making some comments. It is known that he has not played any T20I or ODI match in the recent past. But, still, he is consistently performing well in the domestic circuit with the bat and his wicketkeeping for his state team.
Parthiv Patel talks about Mumbai Indians vs Kings XI Punjab match in 2016
In a session with Fancode, Parthiv recalled an instance that happened during an IPL match when he was playing for Mumbai Indians and Mitchell Johnson for Kings XI Punjab. The wicketkeeper-batsman said that in that game he had scored 81 runs against KXIP. And, he had smacked the former left-arm pacer all round the park. The left-handed batsman also added that he always had an upper hand against Johnson whenever he faced him.
Patel recited that when the left-arm pacer came out to bat, he gave him cheeky advice to bowl with his right arm instead of bowling with left-arm to get his wicket.
“One thing I remember I told Mitchell Johnson during an IPL game. I had scored 80 (81 actually) and I’d smashed him all over the park. For the record every time we’ve played, I’ve smashed him. And he had a lot of words to say to me. So when he came down to bat I told him ‘I don’t think you can get me out with your left arm why don’t you try bowling with your right arm, you might get me out with that’,” the left-handed batsman told Fancode.
The Indian wicketkeeper was all set to play for RCB in IPL 2020. However, BCCI suspended the T20 tournament for an indefinite period amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
