Sarfaraz Khan distributes food packets to migrant workers in UP; his family decides to skip Eid celebrations
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the entire country has been struggling. It has been a tough time for the migrant labourers in the country as they are not getting proper food or resources due to the lack of work at this moment. However, people are trying to find ways to help these migrants workers. One of the cricketers who is helping the workers is young batsman Sarfaraz Khan.
The right-handed batsman who plays for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy has been helping migrant workers in his native village of Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh. The batsman has been distributing food packets along with his younger brother Mushir and his father-cum-coach Naushad to the workers who are travelling back to their homes. The batsman who is contracted with Kings XI Punjab had gone to visit his native village in March when he got stuck there due to the nationwide lockdown.
Sarfaraz Khan’s family give up Eid celebrations and decide to help migrant workers
“When we used to go to the market, we use to see scores of people travelling on the roads. And hence we decided to help them. It was my father’s idea to help the migrant workers,” the batsman said as quoted by Outlook India. The family has helped some of the locals in this endeavour.
Sarfaraz’s father Naushad also said that they have distributed around a thousand food packets so far and are ready to continue doing it. He also informed that each packet consisted of an apple, banana, cake, biscuits and a water bottle. You can watch the efforts of the young Mumbai player along with his family in this video below. Sarfaraz Khan had a terrific season with Mumbai this year. He made the headlines when he smashed a triple century in the last season of Ranji Trophy. Considering his form, he was likely to have a great IPL season as well. The 22-year-old smashed 301 not out against Uttar Pradesh before continuing his good form with another score of 226 not out against Himachal Pradesh. He also scored a 177 run knock against Madhya Pradesh in his last match of the Ranji season earlier this year.
The batsman has been a popular name in the domestic circuit and also made the headlines when he represented India U19 at two consecutive U19 World Cups in 2014 and 2016.
